Ghana has been a partner country in German development cooperation for over 30 years, with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH establishing its office in Accra in 1983. Among countries in the region, Ghana stands out for its stable democracy and above-average economic growth. The government is strongly committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ranking 8th out of 52 countries on the SDG Index. However, growth faces challenges due to mismanagement, corruption, and persistent political, economic, and social inequalities. These issues significantly impact income and wealth distribution across the population. Approximately 85% of the workforce is employed in the informal sector, where access to financial and advisory services remains limited and often unaffordable. Additionally, a lack of professional training and qualifications hampers employment opportunities, contributing to migration.
