The Asogli Yam Festival, known locally as Asogli Te Za, is a cherished harvest celebration of the Asogli State in the Volta Region of Ghana. This annual event occurs in September and is marked with great joy and gratitude. The festival honours the cultivation of yam, a staple crop in the community, tracing its origins to a hunter who discovered the tuber during a famine and began its cultivation. The celebration is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Ewe people, who brought it to Ghana during their migration from Notse in Togo. Highlights of the festival include the sprinkling of cooked yam at shrines, a grand durbar of chiefs at the Ho Jubilee Park, and cultural displays of music, dance, and storytelling. Togbe Afede XIV, the Paramount Chief of Asogli State, leads the festival and receives homage from attendees. The Asogli Yam Festival also promotes unity, reconciliation, and thanksgiving while showcasing the region's rich cultural heritage. It has become a platform for the community to mobilize resources and celebrate achievements in farming and other occupations.
